In October of 2000, the National Ornamental Metal Museum, in Memphis, Tennessee, featured a retrospective of Richard Kimball's work from 1977 until then. The National Ornamental Metal Museum's newsletter said the following about Richard: "Each fall, the Museum presents a one person exhibition by an American metal artist who is regarded as truly outstanding by peers within the metalsmithing community. It is an exhibit of national importance to professional metalsmiths, teachers, and students and a great honor for the person chosen as 'Mastersmith'."
