To commemorate its 50th anniversary in 2001, the Denver Botanic Gardens developed an entirely new waterlily cultivar, and commissioned me to create a pendant/brooch, which was auctioned off, to mark the occasion. In collaboration with Ya Ping Que, one of the finest wax carvers in the United States, I designed a miniature lily pond, consisting of an 18 karat gold frame overlaid on a deep blue opal background. The flowers were in 18 karat white gold; the gold surface intricately chased to enhance the detail of each lily pad and the stylized water pattern which formed the border. Hidden in the gold work were tiny diamonds and a few white gold granules which emulated the sparkle of water.
